It was previously announced that Brady Corbet’s upcoming film will open the Austin Film Festival on Thursday night, but Page Six has confirmed Portman will attend the festival. It will be her first time attending the annual fest.
“Vox Lux” is about a 31-year-old pop star who survived tragedy as a teenager, and shot to stardom after writing a song with her sister about their experience. Now Celeste, played by Portman, has a teenage daughter of her own while navigating her career when another act of violence strikes.
The film originally premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival in September.
It was previously announced that “Ben Is Back” starring Julia Roberts and Lucas Hedges has been chosen as the festival’s centerpiece film.
The Austin Film fest’s lineup also includes Jason Reitman’s film “The Front Runner” starring Hugh Jackman, Gillian Flynn and Steve McQueen’s film “Widows,” “The Favourite” starring Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz and “Everybody Knows” starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz.
Former films “Dolores Claiborne,” “Speed” and “Hocus Pocus” have been announced as part of the festival’s retrospective series. The TV program includes “Friends from College” and “Counterpart.”
